A wide-field view of the Horsehead Nebula region!
With 15 hours of exposure, the contrast between the reddish emission hues and the dark dust clouds is spectacular, creating a beautiful sense of three-dimensionality and depth!
The iconic Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) stands out against the rosy glow of the emission nebula IC 434. Beside it, the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) “burns,” energized by the brilliant star Alnitak—the easternmost star in Orion’s Belt. Also, notice the small, bluish reflection nebula NGC 2023 just below the horse’s “neck,” a point of light reflecting the glow of young stars. A true cosmic landscape teeming with stellar nurseries!
