Dark Nebula LDN 234 in H-alpha. Carved into the luminous H-alpha canvas of Sh2-27, LDN 234 exhibits a stark contrast between interstellar dust opacity and background emission. The complex filamentary channels visible here delineate regions of high gas density, marking the hidden birthplaces of future low-mass stars on the edge of the Rho Ophiuchi cloud.
