Dumbbell Nebula

Messier 27 (M27), also known as the Dumbbell Nebula, is one of the first planetary nebulae ever discovered and one of the brightest examples of its class. Located approximately 1,200 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula, it marks the final stage in the evolution of a Sun-like star. The colorful shell of ionized gas was expelled by the dying star and is now illuminated by the intense ultraviolet radiation of the hot white dwarf at its center. This image highlights the delicate structures of hydrogen (Hα) and doubly ionized oxygen (OIII), revealing the intricate morphology of this remarkable nebula. It was captured from northern Brazil under Bortle 6 skies using a GSO RC6 telescope (1350 mm focal length), a ZWO ASI294MC Pro camera, and an Optolong L-eXtreme dual-band filter. The final image is the result of 8 hours of total integration, acquired in 180-second exposures.
