NGC 2467 is a young open cluster associated with an emission nebula located in the constellation Puppis. NGC 2467 is approximately 4,420 light-years from the solar system and the latest estimates give it an age of 12.6 million years. It is a very active stellar nursery with stars continuously forming from clouds of dust and gas.
Because of its shape, authors have nicknamed it the ‘Skull and Crossbones Nebula’. Its appearance resembles a colourful cosmic ghost or a giant celestial mandrill.
