IC 1805 is approximately 300 light years across and the ionization is generated by the nearby cluster (Melotte 15) that was born within the nebula itself.
IC 1848 is somewhat smaller and has a size of 200 light years.
Both nebulae are emission nebulae and are located in an arm of Perseus (within our galaxy). This area is known for the continuous formation of stars and star clusters.
