Situated in the wild north western Kunene region in Namibia, the Puros area, features arid semi-desert terrain characterised by a blend of undulating hills, wooded river valleys and vast plains covered in sparse savannah, dotted with acacia and tamarisk trees. This remote area is home to an array of unique desert adapted wildlife such as elephants, lions, the black rhino and giraffes. A lesser known feature unique to the area is that it is dotted with the stonemen….the human form in various poses held together by steel rods and bents and made up of stones local to the region. Artist Trevor Nott has been hard at work putting together almost 40 of these figures, though one is not sure of the exact number. The Bortle 1 pollution free skies of the region framed against these men of stone form a compelling nightscape for the adventurous astrophotographer who ventures into these far lands…..
