LDN 1436 and LDN 1438 are two dark nebulae composed primarily of interstellar dust that blocks background light. The red line is part of a supernova remnant located in the Auriga constellation, about 5000 light years away. It is situated behind the Taurus Auriga dust complex about 300 light years away, which gives it the ghostly appearance of weaving around dark nebula in the foreground.
