Vdb152 and LDN1217
vdB 152 is a reflection nebula visible in the constellation Cepheus.
Its position is located approximately 4° east of Alfirk (β Cephei), in a region rich in dark nebulae and star fields, located at the southern edge of the Cepheus flare; Also cataloged as Ced 201, it is located along the northern Milky Way in the constellation Cepheus.
Inside it is a blue-white main sequence star, BD+69 1231, magnitude 9.29, whose radiation gives the surrounding gases a distinctly bluish color.
The star lies at the southern end of a dark, comet-like nebula, with a long coma extending north.
Ultraviolet light from the star is also believed to be the cause of the faint reddish luminescence of the nebular dust.
Near the edge of a large molecular cloud, pockets of interstellar dust in the region block light from background stars or scatter light from the embedded bright star that gives the nebula a characteristic blue color.
In the northern part of the cloud is LDN 1217, a very dense cloud in which the presence of various sources of infrared radiation suggests the presence of star formation phenomena.
Although stars form in molecular clouds, it seems that this star entered the area accidentally, since its speed through space is very different from the speed of the cloud.
The distance to the structure is estimated at about 1400 light years.
