Rosette Nebula

Rosette Nebula or NGC 2237 is a huge cloud of gas and dust about 100 light years across. It is known for being a giant stellar nursery, which gives it that impressive chaotic aspect.
It is located in the direction of the constellation Unicorn, 4,500 light years from our solar system.
The image shows a part of the nebula. One of its features are the sculptures drawn by globules of dark dust, in the upper corner of the image. The thin band of dust and gas at the center is eroded away by energetic radiation and winds from the massive central star.
Stars emit ultraviolet radiation that ionizes the surrounding hydrogen cloud, making it an emission nebula.
The colors are a composition of narrowband filters, with sulfur in red, hydrogen green and oxygen in blue, resulting in colors that highlight their shapes and compositions.
