Ho ripreso questa immagine dal mio tetto vicino a Finsbury Park, nel centro di Londra, Regno Unito. Lo scatto è composto da esposizioni a banda stretta lunghe 25 ore in (15 x Ha, 6 x Oiii e 4 x Sii) e le stelle sono state riprese a colori reali con una telecamera a colori. Ovviamente fotografare da Londra è complicato, ma il fatto che queste nebulose siano quasi direttamente sopra la città durante l’estate significa che non sto scattando attraverso l’inquinamento luminoso di come sarei se fossero più bassi all’orizzonte. Per elaborare questa immagine ho dovuto imparare a usare Pixinsight e ci è voluto del tempo! Mi piace il fatto che questa immagine mostri come la macchia scura tra la nebulosa del Nord America e del pellicano sia formata da una corsia di polvere scura. Prima di scattare questa immagine avevo sempre pensato che la macchia scura fosse solo uno spazio tra le nuvole luminose di nebulosità. Mostra solo quanta roba c’è davvero in giro in questa regione della Via Lattea.
I shot this from my roof near Finsbury Park in central London UK. The shot is made up of 25 hour long narrowband exposures in (15 x Ha, 6 x Oiii and 4 x Sii ) and the stars were shot in true colour with a colour camera. Obviously shooting from London is tricky but the fact that these nebula are almost directly above London in the Summer means that I am not shooting through as much light pollution as i would be if they were lower on the horizon. In order to process this image i had to learn how to use pixinsight so it took a while! I like the fact that this image shows how the dark patch between the North America and Pelican nebula is made up of a dark dust lane. Before taking this image I had always assumed the dark patch was just a gap between the bright clouds of nebulousness. Just goes to show how much stuff there really is floating around in this region of the milky way.
