NGC 3372, la Nebulosa Eta Carinae è una grande nebulosa luminosa che circonda diversi ammassi aperti. La nebulosa può essere vista ad occhio nudo. La stella Eta Carinae, una gigantesca stella variabile, è tra le stelle più imponenti e luminose della Via Lattea.
Questa nebulosa di prima magnitudine è una delle più grandi regioni H II della Via Lattea ed è una delle più grandi nebulose diffuse nel cielo. Anche se è circa quattro volte più grande e molto più luminosa della famosa Nebulosa di Orione, la Nebulosa Carina è meno conosciuta, a causa della sua posizione nell’emisfero meridionale. La nebulosa si trova ad una distanza stimata tra 6.500 e 10.000 anni luce dalla Terra.

NGC 3372, the Eta Carinae Nebula is a large bright nebula that surrounds several open clusters. The nebula can be seen with the naked eye. The star Eta Carinae, a giant variable star, is among the most massive and luminous stars in the Milky Way.
This first magnitude nebula is one of the largest H II regions in the Milky Way and is one of the largest diffuse nebulae in the sky. Although it is some four times as large and much brighter than the famous Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is less well known, due to its location far in the Southern Hemisphere. The nebula lies at an estimated distance between 6,500 and 10,000 light years from Earth.
